Once again for 2011, WMMR radio’s morning hosts Preston & Steve will be holding their Campout for Hunger drive the week after Thanksgiving, beginning Monday, November 28th and continuing through Friday December 2nd.

If you’re not familiar with Preston & Steve’s Campout event, for those five days, they “camp” in an RV collecting non-perishable food items for Philabundance, who then distribute the food throughout the greater Delaware Valley area to those who need it. Campout and other food drives play an essential role in helping Philabundance keep up with the needs of the community.

As we have the past several years, White Horse RV Center is more than happy to provide an RV for Preston & Steve to live in throughout the week.

How can you help?

When shopping for an RV, we’re sure you’ve run across some dealers boldly stating “WE WILL NOT BE UNDERSOLD!”. Given that there are many, many variables that need to be factored in when pricing a coach, we’ve always found it puzzling when we run across someone making this claim.

First of all, since manufacturers typically have territories assigned to their dealers, in most cases you will have to go outside your market just to shop the same model. Even with that, there are many other intangibles that go into the price of an RV. How much was shipping from the manufacturer; how thoroughly does the dealer prep the RV; how long has a particular unit been on the lot; are there any manufacturer incentives; plus many more. And that’s not even including trade-ins!

So you see, while some types of retailers can make a claim like that (electronics, mattresses, home supply stores, to name a few) it’s just not that straight-forward in the RV business. At White Horse RV, we’ve been serving customers in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New York, and throughout the United States for over 38 years. We recommend that you do your research, whether online or in person, and when you come see us, we’ll give you a great deal and fantastic service. In short, the old adage about an informed customer is our best customer applies here.

So how do you feel about “We Will Not Be Undersold”? Take our quick poll and let us know!

View This Poll

Thanks for stopping by and reading our blog. The next time you’re in the market for a new or pre-owned RV, be sure stop by and see us, or check out our extensive inventory online.

Until next time…
Happy RVing!

Note: This article was originally posted last year at this time, but felt it was worthwhile to re-post. Have a great weekend everyone!

Backyard barbeques, American flags, camping, swimming, baseball games, horseshoes, good friends, long weekend, and unofficial start to Summer are just some of the many first thoughts that pop into your head when thinking of Memorial Day. But, as is the case with many established holidays, as time passes by, the orignal meaning of the holiday is lost. We thought we’d take a moment to give a brief history of Memorial Day and give pause to salute those who have died in our nation’s service.

General John A. Logan

Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day and came into existence in the years following the Civil War. Decoration Day was a day that was set aside to honor those who were killed in the Civil War by decorating their graves. Some historians believe that this practice actually began before the end of the Civil War and was organized by women’s groups in the south. This tradition went on for a few years, and then, on May 5, 1868 Memorial Day was officially proclaimed by General John Logan, national commander of the Grand Army of the Republic. Memorial Day was then widely observed on May 30, 1868 when flowers were placed on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery.

In 1873, New York became the first state to officially recognized Memorial Day, and by 1890, all of the northern states had followed suit. In the south, it wasn’t until after World War I, when the holiday was changed to honor all Americans who fought in any war, and not just those from the Civil War, that Memorial Day became a recognized holiday. In 1971, Congress passed the National Holiday Act that ensured three-day weekends for Federal Holidays, and Memorial Day was to be officially celebrated on the last Monday of May.

Memorial Day

So there you have it. Wherever you may be this weekend, whether it’s your RV at your favorite campground, a backyard with friends and family, a ballgame, or anywhere, try to take a few minutes between sips of your favorite adult beverage or soft drink, and give thanks to the many who have sacrificed before us and are sacrificing now for our freedom.

If there’s someone you’d like to honor for Memorial Day, please feel free to share their name with us in our comments section below along with anything you’d like to say.

Sticker Shock at the Gas Pump … Gas prices continue to climb … Gas prices: How high will they go?

Jeez, you can’t turn on the TV, surf the web, or have a conversation with someone without the topic of gas prices coming up. A media feeding frenzy.

Now, don’t get us wrong, we’re all for lower gas prices and appreciate how hard everyone works for their money, but how much does this really effect our RVers out there? If you’re a full-timer doing a lot of driving, obviously there is a pretty big impact. However, these folks represent a very small segment of the RV community, so how about everyone else.

For a more typical scenario, here are figures based on towing a travel trailer or fifth wheel, your tow vehicle getting 12 miles per gallon, and taking a 250 mile trip.

At $2.50 per gallon, the cost to travel 250 miles is $52.08

At $3.50 per gallon, the cost to travel 250 miles is $72.92
(a $20.84 difference)

At $4.00 per gallon, the cost to travel 250 miles is $83.33
(a $31.25 difference)

So, as you can see, even if gas gets as high as $4.00 per gallon, your trip is only costing you an additional $31.25. For most motorhomes, depending on their mpg, the cost will be a little higher, but you get the idea. If you’re staying fairly close to home and you factor in all the other ways you save by traveling in your RV, the increase becomes a little less painful.

You can also do a few simple things to help increase your mpg, such as staying close to the speed limit, accelerating slowly instead of “punching it”, trying to avoid heavy braking, and keeping your tires to their proper pressure.

As far as finding the cheapest gas in your area, if you haven’t already, try GasBuddy.com. They have mobile apps available also. Please remember not to get too carried away with the price and end up traveling out of your way to save a penny or two!

It’s also worth mentioning that from what we’ve been able to gather, these prices are NOT being driven up by any type of shortage, but by the “speculators” who invest in gas, so this situation could be very short-lived. What ever happened to supply and demand??

Now get in your RV, go to your favorite place, and forget about this nonsense!!

Until next time.. Happy RVing!

Camper’s Check List:
This is something easy and fun to do with kids of all ages! Using a sheet of paper, list all the items you will need for your trip, leaving a space next to each item to be checked off when it’s loaded onto your RV. Use one list for the whole family, or have each person make their own list of what’s important to them so nothing is left behind. Having the lists is a big help, plus a little teamwork always comes in handy to make sure you have everything for everyone!

Learn-a-Little:
Another thing you can do before heading out on your next trip is to grab an atlas, computer or book where you can look up information on the places you’re going to visit. Have your kids list all of the things they are interested in doing and seeing, and try to learn a little about the area you are headed to!

Bring A Journal:
A great way to document your trip is to bring a journal for each person, or use one for the whole family. Fill it with sayings from the trip, new or different things learned, photos or pictures drawn, memories of the adventure, and anything else you come across. You’ll find that a journal will be a great conversation piece full of great memories of your time together that you can enjoy for years to come!

A treat for the road or home!

With St. Patrick’s Day fast approaching, we thought it would be a good time to share this recipe.

Irish Potatoes Made Easy!

Ingredients:

¼ cup butter, softened

½ cup cream cheese

1 tsp vanilla

1 16-oz box of powdered sugar

2½ cups coconut

2 tbsp cinnamon

Directions:

Place butter, cream cheese and vanilla in a large bowl and beat with a hand mixer until smooth.

Add powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, beating after each addition. Continue beating until mixture forms a stiff ball.

Stir in coconut.

Roll the mixture to form small potato shapes.

Roll “potatoes” in cinnamon to cover.

Refrigerate until firm, about an hour.

After chilling, roll each ball again in the cinnamon and serve.

Hope you enjoy them!

Until next time… Happy RVing!

Jayco Skylark

One of the things that strikes you first about the Skylark travel trailer by Jayco is it’s unique V-nose. While it’s very stylish, we think it should really stand for Very Energy Efficient, given that the 2012 Skylark is Jayco’s most energy-efficient travel trailer!

According to Jayco, this light-weight package is towable by 75% of all cars, trucks and SUVs, measures 22 feet long and weighs only 2,950 lbs.! The Skylark’s V-Nose front profile and air conditioner placement are among the construction and design enhancements, that allows it to cut through wind and dramatically reduce drag. They’ve also placed the air conditioner on the floorline instead of the roofline, the center of gravity is lowered, which allows for a single-axle system for less weight and improved performance.

Some of the standard features you’ll find on the Skylark, that you won’t find on other conventionally built travel trailers includes LED lighting throughout the unit. LED lights consume less than one-quarter the electricity than conventional lights, plus they last about 10 times as long! You’ll also find double-paned acrylic tinted windows and Azdel Super Lite Substrate in all lamination. The inclusion of these features should provide customers good resale values down the road.

There’s also much to like when it comes to the Skylark’s styling, which combines contemporary with European touches, that we think makes for a very attractive package. Specifically, you’ll find light-weight Concord cherry cabinetry with brushed nickel hardware and a unique stainless steel sink with integrated faucet and cover that give a sleek and sophisticated look.

Other great features worth mentioning are the linoleum flooring throughout, a jack-knife aluminum framed sofa, 2-burner stainless steel cook top (with integrated cover), and a 48×76-inch high-density foam mattress bed that lifts up easily on struts and has extra storage beneath.

As is the case with all Jayco products, the Skylark is Green Certified by TRA Certification Inc, an independent third-party certification agency. The Skylark itself earned an Emerald Certification, which is the highest distinction available. This high rating was earned through the use of sustainable materials, environmentally friendly production methods, energy-efficient components and reduction of waste.

To see the Jayco Skylark in person, visit your local RV dealer!

Stop by the Campout for Hunger “camp” at the Metroplex in Plymouth Meeting, PA. There will be plenty of special guests during the morning show, but you can stop during the day and evening also. We are also collecting food at White Horse RV up until Wednesday, 11/24 and will send all donations along with the RV. Anyone who donates at White Horse will receive a 10% discount card for our Parts & Accessories store. Some recommended food items include the following:

Canned Tuna
