Getting to know Galloway

White Horse RV Center's New Galloway Store

White Horse RV is back on the White Horse Pike!
With the opening of our second location at  309 E. White Horse Pike, we’ve finally returned to the White Horse Pike after a 15+ year hiatus. We’re excited to have a facility that can now conveniently serve our customers and campgrounds along the NJ coast in Atlantic, Cape May, Monmouth and Ocean counties, as well as those with easy access to the Garden State Parkway, such as  Middlesex, Union and all the way north to Bergen county!

If you haven’t visited White Horse RV’s new Galloway dealership since it opened back in September of 2011, you wouldn’t recognize the place now!  Our new Galloway team, under the guidance of  General Manager Heather Shannon, has been hard at work getting things up to date in order to meet the high level of service White Horse RV has become renowned for. We thought this would be a good opportunity for you to meet some of the Galloway Team.

Heather Shannon – General Manager

Heather joined her family’s  White Horse RV business back in 1994, working primarily in sales, but filling in occasionally in other areas of the business over the years.  When the time came to name a General Manager for the new Galloway location, the decision was easy.

Heather grew up camping as a young girl, and has helped White Horse RV grow into one of the regions biggest RV dealerships. “Our goal has always been to make sure our customers end up with the right RV for their lifestyle, it’s up to us to ask the right questions and really get to know our customers.”

Heather has received numerous professional certifications and awards including Winnebago Peak Performer Certification in 2007 and 2008, Jayco Masters Achievement in 2000, 2005, 2007, and 2011, Fleetwood Training Achievement in 2005, Newmar Training Achievement in 2004, Holiday Rambler Training Achievement in 2000, and being a Top Sales Winner for Jayco in 1998. She holds a B.A. degree in Journalism from Rider University, and Post-Baccalaureate New Jersey Teacher Dual Certification: Elementary K-8 and Secondary 9-12 from Rowan University, Summa Cum Laude.

Mike Cahill White Horse RV Center Sales
Mike Cahill – Sales

Mike joined the Galloway team just recently, but has over 12 years RV dealership experience in both sales and finance. Mike says he likes to sneak away and play some golf when possible, but with a wife and 6 children to consider, it’s hard to believe he gets out much! In the summer you’ll  find Mike, his wife Biz and the kids on the beaches of LBI as much as possible, and enjoying all their kids many activities throughout the rest of the year. Originally from Monmouth County, he now resides in South Jersey, but remains an avid NY Giants and NY Rangers fan.

Billy Ray Owneburg, Jr. – Sales

Billy Ray Owneburg, Jr.After a recent hiatus to travel around the country, Billy Ray is back putting his 20+ years RV experience to work with White Horse RV in Galloway. Since the age of 14, when Billy Ray began working in a campground, he’s  been around RVs in some capacity. He even began selling RVs at the young age of 17! With all that experience, not to mention a great rapport with his customers, Billy Ray has been a great addition to the White Horse RV Galloway team! Stop in and say hi!

Rodger Brown – Service

With over 30 years in the RV business, including a background as a dealership owner, shop foreman, and service manager, when it comes to questions about your RV, Rodger would be a great place to start. A former machinist by trade, Rodger has extensive training in the RV industry as well, including RVIA certification, Draw-Tite, Reese, Norcold, Suburban, Atwood, Dometic, and Cummings certification, and many more!  Rodger has lived his whole life in Atlantic County and is an avid camper, with Hatteras being his favorite getaway (he has to get out of Atlantic County sometimes, doesn’t he!).

Joe Kuhn

Joe Kuhn – Parts

Joe is retired from both the  Monroe Township Police Department as the Officer in Charge of the Detective Bureau and the U.S. Army as a Sergeant Major. He is also a certified helicopter mechanic. As you can imagine, based on his careers, Joe likes to keep active. He also loves RVing, so getting into the RV business seemed like it would be a great fit… and it has been. Joe and his wife of almost 40 years own a Jayco Seneca 35HD and have been RVing for almost 10 years. In his spare time, you will find Joe riding and repairing old Harley’s or at the shooting range where he is an expert at repairing all types of firearms.

Now that you’ve met most of the team, we hope you’ll stop in and see us!

We will not be undersold!

When shopping for an RV, we’re sure you’ve run across some dealers boldly stating “WE WILL NOT BE UNDERSOLD!”. Given that there are many, many variables that need to be factored in when pricing a coach, we’ve always found it puzzling when we run across someone making this claim.

First of all, since manufacturers typically have territories assigned to their dealers, in most cases you will have to go outside your market just to shop the same model. Even with that, there are many other intangibles that go into the price of an RV. How much was shipping from the manufacturer; how thoroughly does the dealer prep the RV; how long has a particular unit been on the lot; are there any manufacturer incentives;  plus many more. And that’s not even including trade-ins!

So you see, while some types of retailers can make a claim like that (electronics, mattresses, home supply stores, to name a few) it’s just not that straight-forward in the RV business. At White Horse RV, we’ve been serving customers in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New York, and throughout the United States for over 38 years. We recommend that you do your research, whether online or in person, and when you come see us, we’ll give you a great deal and fantastic service. In short, the old adage about an informed customer is our best customer applies here.

So how do you feel about “We Will Not Be Undersold”? Take our quick poll and let us know!

Thanks for stopping by and reading our blog. The next time you’re in the market for a new or pre-owned RV, be sure stop by and see us, or check out our extensive inventory online.

Until next time…
Happy RVing!

“V” for VERY Energy Efficient

Jayco Skylark

One of the things that strikes you first about the Skylark travel trailer by Jayco is it’s unique V-nose. While it’s very stylish, we think it should really stand for Very Energy Efficient, given that the 2012 Skylark is Jayco’s most energy-efficient travel trailer!

According to Jayco, this light-weight package is towable by 75% of all cars, trucks and SUVs, measures 22 feet long and weighs only 2,950 lbs.!  The Skylark’s V-Nose front profile and air conditioner placement are among the construction and design enhancements, that allows it to cut through wind and dramatically reduce drag.  They’ve also placed the air conditioner on the floorline instead of the roofline, the center of gravity is lowered,  which allows for a single-axle system for less weight and improved performance.

Some of the standard features you’ll find on the Skylark, that you won’t find on other conventionally built travel trailers includes  LED lighting throughout the unit. LED lights consume less than one-quarter the electricity than conventional lights, plus they last about 10 times as long! You’ll also find  double-paned acrylic tinted windows and Azdel Super Lite Substrate in all lamination. The inclusion of these features should provide customers good resale values down the road.

There’s also much to like when it comes to the Skylark’s styling, which combines contemporary with European touches, that we think makes for a very attractive package. Specifically, you’ll find light-weight Concord cherry cabinetry with brushed nickel hardware and a unique stainless steel sink with integrated faucet and cover that give a sleek and sophisticated look.

Other great features worth mentioning are the linoleum flooring throughout, a jack-knife aluminum framed sofa, 2-burner stainless steel cook top (with integrated cover),  and a 48×76-inch high-density foam mattress bed that lifts up easily on struts and has extra storage beneath.

As is the case with all Jayco products, the Skylark is Green Certified by TRA Certification Inc, an independent third-party certification agency. The Skylark itself earned an Emerald Certification, which is the highest distinction available. This high rating was earned through the use of sustainable materials, environmentally friendly production methods, energy-efficient components and reduction of waste.

To see the Jayco Skylark in person, visit your local RV dealer!

Until next time.. Happy RVing!

WMMR's Preston & Steve - Campout for HungerIn what has now become a great Philadelphia tradition, WMMR radio’s morning hosts Preston & Steve will begin their Campout for Hunger drive beginning Monday, November 29th and continuing through Friday December 3rd.

If you’re not familiar with Preston & Steve’s Campout event, for those five days, they “camp” in an RV collecting non-perishable food items for Philabundance, who then distribute the food throughout the greater Delaware Valley area to those who need it. Campout and other food drives play an essential role in helping Philabundance keep up with the needs of the community.

As we have the past several years, White Horse RV Center is more than happy to provide an RV for Preston & Steve to live in throughout the week.

How can you help?

Stop by the Campout for Hunger “camp” at the Metroplex in Plymouth Meeting, PA. There will be plenty of special guests during the morning show, but you can stop during the day and evening also.  We are also collecting food at White Horse RV up until Wednesday, 11/24 and will send all donations along with the RV. Anyone who donates at White Horse will receive a 10% discount card for our Parts & Accessories store.  Some recommended food items include the following:

A horse of a different color

White Horse RV Center

Established 1973

If you’ve been to White Horse RV Center, you know that it’s located on the Black Horse Pike. So what gives? Shouldn’t it be Black Horse RV? We still get that question pretty frequently, even after almost 15 years at our “new” location.

Originally, White Horse RV was, of course, located on the White Horse Pike in Somerdale, NJ. Founded in 1973, White Horse RV Center was originally named White Horse Winnebago, and then White Horse Leisure. While the Somerdale location was a success, it was just too small to handle the continually growing popularity of RVs. To give you an idea of the size, the location eventually became a fireplace accessories store.

In 1996, White Horse moved to the current Williamstown location on the Black Horse Pike, a former auto dealer lot and building. This space was much better suited to handle all of the new products that would eventually be sold, including travel trailers, fifth wheels, toy haulers, and motorhomes. At the time, some thought was given to changing the name, but in those days before the internet explosion, getting the word out on a name change would have been very difficult, so the decision was made to keep the White Horse name.

Since we’re on the subject, here’s a little history on both the White Horse and Black Horse Pikes.

White HorseThe White Horse Pike originated as a Native American path called Lonaconing Trail and eventually became the main stagecoach route between the Philadelphia/Camden area and Atlantic City. Today, known as Route 30 and the White Horse Pike, it remains a main route between Philadelphia and Atlantic City.

Black Horse PikeThe Black Horse Pike was also originally a Native American trail, but we’re not sure of the original name. This trail ran from the Delaware River to Egg Harbor.  Today, known as the Black Horse Pike, it also has the unfortunate distinction of being parts of Rt. 168, Rt. 42, Rt. 322 and Rt. 40 which can be very confusing when giving directions!
