Helping Philadelphia area kids for 30 years!

What’s your first thought when you think of “bikers”? Often portrayed in movies, TV shows and other entertainment outlets as a band of hooligans, the reality couldn’t be further from the truth.

A great example of this is Delaware Valley A.B.A.T.E (Alliance of Bikers Aimed Toward Education). This  Sunday marks the 30th Annual A.B.A.T.E. toy run where bikers line the streets of Philadelphia for blocks on end, and cruise through the city to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia where they deliver new toys to the kids.

Delaware Valley A.B.A.T.E.

This year, as has been the case for the last several, current A.B.A.T.E member Mark Schultz will be living in an RV,  donated by White Horse RV Center, for the weekend collecting toys from those who aren’t riding. Sunday’s festivities are hosted by Philadelphia radio legend, WMMR’s Pierre Robert, until 12 noon when the bikers begin their trek to Children’s Hospital.

All motorcycles are welcome to ride! You can also just show up to donate a toy if you don’t or can’t ride. Here are the event details:

  • Toys can be dropped off at the A.B.A.T.E. RV beginning Friday, 11/5/2010 until Sunday, 11/7/2010 at 12 noon.
  • The RV will be located in close proximity to Columbus Blvd. & Spring Garden Street in Philadelphia. This is also the starting point for the toy run.
  • All toys must be new, unwrapped and have batteries included if required. No stuffed animals please, due to health reasons.
  • If you’re coming, please be advised that parts of Spring Garden, 8th Street, and the Schuylkill Expressway will be closed.

Come rain or shine!

White Horse RV Center

Established 1973

If you’ve been to White Horse RV Center, you know that it’s located on the Black Horse Pike. So what gives? Shouldn’t it be Black Horse RV? We still get that question pretty frequently, even after almost 15 years at our “new” location.

Originally, White Horse RV was, of course, located on the White Horse Pike in Somerdale, NJ. Founded in 1973, White Horse RV Center was originally named White Horse Winnebago, and then White Horse Leisure. While the Somerdale location was a success, it was just too small to handle the continually growing popularity of RVs. To give you an idea of the size, the location eventually became a fireplace accessories store.

In 1996, White Horse moved to the current Williamstown location on the Black Horse Pike, a former auto dealer lot and building. This space was much better suited to handle all of the new products that would eventually be sold, including travel trailers, fifth wheels, toy haulers, and motorhomes. At the time, some thought was given to changing the name, but in those days before the internet explosion, getting the word out on a name change would have been very difficult, so the decision was made to keep the White Horse name.

Since we’re on the subject, here’s a little history on both the White Horse and Black Horse Pikes.

White HorseThe White Horse Pike originated as a Native American path called Lonaconing Trail and eventually became the main stagecoach route between the Philadelphia/Camden area and Atlantic City. Today, known as Route 30 and the White Horse Pike, it remains a main route between Philadelphia and Atlantic City.

Black Horse PikeThe Black Horse Pike was also originally a Native American trail, but we’re not sure of the original name. This trail ran from the Delaware River to Egg Harbor.  Today, known as the Black Horse Pike, it also has the unfortunate distinction of being parts of Rt. 168, Rt. 42, Rt. 322 and Rt. 40 which can be very confusing when giving directions!

Getting to know the Damon Astoria Diesel Pusher

Astoria Diesel Pusher by Damon

The decision to carry a new model, especially a diesel pusher, is one that we do not take lightly.  In the past, we’ve carried some pretty high-priced pushers like the Dutch Star from Newmar. However, the majority of people we talked to over the past few years indicated they wanted a diesel pusher at a more affordable price.

The process to find such a product can be more difficult than you think. Our owners and sales manager attended numerous national trade shows, viewed dozens of products, talked to the many manufacturer reps, and “crunched” the numbers.  The goal was to find a diesel pusher that met our pricing criteria, without sacrificing quality. The Damon Astoria fits the bill perfectly.

Damon Astoria Kitchen

Although it’s considered an”entry level” diesel pusher and priced as low as many gas coaches, we think you’ll be impressed with the quality and luxury of the Astoria.

A few of the many features include:

  • Freightliner XC Raised Rail Chassis
  • 340-hp Cummins Engine with 660 ft lb of Torque
  • Solid Wood Raised Panel Cabinet Doors Throughout
  • Corian Solid Surface Kitchen Countertop, Range Cover, and Sink Covers
  • Dual 13.5 BTU Ducted Central Air Conditioning
  • 34,000 BTU Floor Ducted Electronic Ignition Furnace
  • 50-AMP, 120-volt service
  • Onan 6.0 kW Quiet Diesel Generator
  • Exterior GFCI Receptacle
  • Full Height shower with Door
  • And plenty more

We welcome you to come see the Astoria in person, or you can check it out online by viewing either our in-stock models, or in our virtual showroom!
